I got back from London in the afternoon yesterday and did some work for WISH domestic Violence -

Last night I spoke to my friend Jan on the phone for hours! She’s lives in San Francisco and has just had a little girl called Erin. We had roast chicken and chips and peas and hot peri-peri sauce and lots of wine and then watched Control on DVD - which is about joy division and is pretty sad - but a good film. We also got The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford….for another day!

We’re off to boysie and lucy’s house for dinner tonight and I’m making eton mess pudding (copying my friend Kate who made it for us in the summer and served it in wine glasses)... Eton Mess is a glorious mixture of meringue, fruit and whipped cream that is traditionally served at Eton College - which many people now call eat and mess.

To serve four - 225g fresh or frozen raspberries, 1/4 cup caster sugar, 450g strawberries, hulled, quartered, 150ml thick cream, 150ml thick Greek yoghurt, 4 (10g each) meringue nests, crumbled

Place raspberries and sugar in a saucepan over very low heat for 5 minutes until the juices start to flow, then leave to cool.

Transfer to a food processor and puree until smooth. Pass through a sieve, discarding the solids. Place strawberries in a bowl with the puree, cream, yoghurt and the meringue.

Fold everything together until just combined, then spoon into four glasses and serve immediately.
