lots & lots & lots to do!

By Alice on Thursday 30th October 2008

It’s 4:15pm and it’s getting dark - ‘hello winter’... it is also TOTALLY freezing! I have had lots to do - and am now looking forward to the weekend. Here’s some of the things I’ve been getting up to (...and, yes, I do DO work!) - - - -

This is a logo for Extinction Sucks - -

and, this is a ‘LOVE your life elephant’...

This is the front of a wedding invite - which has been personalised by adding a second bird and the couple’s names…

And this is a business card for The Salon - the 2 x lovely ladies that add happiness to people’s days in the way of hair cuts and nails!

And they do special Sparkly, Spangly Princess Parties too - these are the tags that I did for their gift bags:

I have been lucky enough to be contacted by Extinction Sucks - Aleisha from The Extinction Sucks television series emailed me: ‘Are you interested in creating some illustrations to make people smile and to help inspire Love, Care and Concern for Endangered Animals?’

Aleisha works as a Wildlife Advocate with The United Nations Association of Western Australia, (UNAA-WA) also works to help protect endangered animals from extinction.

This is what she has to say:
Working for wildlife conservation is a very hard and lonely battle. You see the heartbreaking reality of humans destroying the planet literally before your eyes (the destruction, the illegal logging, the illegal poaching, the out of control illegal trade in animals, the list goes on…).

What gives me hope is that we still have a chance to reverse this catastrophe, and I strongly believe this hope lies in today’s youth. Informing, inspiring and channeling the energy and compassion of young people towards projects that will bring about the solutions for a better world.

Conservation needs a radical and different image, It needs to be fresh and motivating. It needs to essentially drive us in becoming inspired to become involved, and by showing how individuals can make a difference…!

It is for this reason that I am currently in the production of a 6 part wildlife TV series called ‘EXTINCTION SUCKS’.

This series is being developed in partnership with Off The Fence which is a production company in Amsterdam and the ‘Extinction Sucks’ TV Series is currently under negotiation with major broadcasters for the US and already in development for digital markets in Europe.

The ‘Extinction Sucks’ TV series is aimed at reaching the mainstream audience and dedicated to giving a voice to the voiceless and a face to the facts. It will look specifically at the animals and habitats around the world that are currently under threat, and the local efforts that are fighting to save them.

The Extinction Sucks series is aimed to help turn “Conservation” into something our generation can relate to. Rather than being the domain of old men in safari suits who patronize and bore us with facts about what’s “out there” The series will be innovative, vibrant, accessible and inclusive.

With a young host and crew of misfits that are united in the aim of presenting stories of hope, and using cutting edge graphics and a modern sound-track, the series will be a kick in the pants to modern television, and a call to action to all viewers!!

Most importantly, this series will show viewers the ways they can become involved in protecting endangered animals from extinction.

Profits from the series will be put back into grass roots conservation initiatives around the world.

The one hope for the Extinction Sucks series is to generate awareness and understanding, and to promote compassion and respect to bring about a safer world for endangered animals everywhere.

Extinction is Forever but Endangered still means that we have time.

Your work not only makes me smile but is so wonderfully uplfting and I am writing to ask if the Extinction Sucks project is something that you may be interested in working on.

The illustrations that we require for the series are the same style to those on your greeting cards. I have listed below the 6 animals we are profiling in the series, these are the animals that we require illustrations of; Tiger, Elephant, Dolphin, Rhino, Tasmanian Devil, Sea Turtle.

I really look forward to hearing your feedback.
Thanks for your time.

Kind regards,
Aleisha Caruso
