small business saturday
Today is Small Business Saturday - a day to celebrate all small businesses. And they definitely need to be celebrated - being a small business owner is tough - you have to wear all the hats, even though you may not be particularly good at wearing them or they may not all fit too well!
My business started from my love of illustrating and designing - but I am also in charge of accounts, sourcing suppliers, ordering, customer service, packing, printing… the list goes on! The qualities of a successful entrepreneur include; perseverance, self-confidence, initiative and the ability to inspire - successful entrepreneurs can tell a story and make it believable - and they need to be able to evolve with their business. All in all, it’s well worth celebrating - and I am!
I love November and December for their busyness - along with feeling the tiredest ever, I feel inspired and get all the new ideas for products, and it’s a great time to see which designs are the most popular. Normal life does get put on hold (and when it comes to the last posting day, you do sit and wonder what on earth just happened and what you used to do with your time). I’m really lucky to have people that help me out - and today BIG thanks goes to Uncle Bob Bob - he’s a wonder with all machinery, very practical, a great problem solver, a very hard worker, and he goes above & beyond to help me out - he’s someone to celebrate and look up to in the small business world (he’s had his own business forever and a day!)
