a wintery weekend

By Alice on Sunday 7th December 2008

On Friday evening we raced over to John and Jana’s for a thai curry which was LOVELy and hot and warmed us up thoroughly for an evening of late night Christmas shopping in Broadway with some free mulled wine, whiskey and champagne tasters! I managed to get quite a few presents - even though I’d forgotten my list - and I also got a new pair of walking boots (most definately not on a whim), and I now feel very Christmassey indeed. What really made my evening was someone guessing my age at 26 - YES! Saturday morning we blitzed the house which looked like a bomb had hit it - and then I got to try out my new boots (which I call the frogs) and they are just BRILLIANT and make me want to walk and walk and walk. Inspired by Jana’s pumpkin soup which I tasted on Friday evening, I made some soup later on called ‘Love & hearts’ from my ‘New Covent Garden Food Co - Soup for All Seasons’ book which I got for Christmas last year and is great ...

...and we sat in watching tv, snacking on crisps and chorizo and soup and tiger bread and drinking beer and wine. Sunday morning we woke up to a big icicle on the bedroom window!

We then met up with John and Jana and Harvey for a walk up Bredon Hill - - -

It was gorgeous up there… we shared a flask of tea, a four fingered kit kat and had a soreen bar each too - yum! The dogs had a couple of dog biscuits each too!

Jemima got particularly dirty trying to get down a rabbit hole!

After walking we went off for a carvery at Hobnails Inn which was AMAZING! Pork and beef and roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding and stuffing and all the veg and apple sauce and horseradish sauce.

Feeling very full, we made our way home, stopping off at Liz and Charlie’s on the way for a cup of tea and to meet Bramble, Pickle and Teasel their new baby guinea pigs. Doug, the existing male mostly likes Teasel the best.
