lots and lots of fruit…

By Alice on Monday 17th August 2009

We had a very fruit-filled weekend!
Our neighbours very kindly gave us some greengages, tomatoes and raspberries - and we went wild blackberry picking as well.

The Greengage (Prunus domestica italica or the Reine Claude) is an edible drupaceous fruit, a cultivar of the plum. It was developed in France from a green-fruited wild plum (Ganerik) originally found in Asia Minor. It is identified by its small, oval shape, smooth-textured flesh, and ranging in colour from green to yellow, grown in temperate areas. They are known for their rich, confectionery flavour that causes them to be considered one of the finest dessert plums.

imageOn friday evening liz and I cycled 11 miles to winchcombe (from evesham) for some friday-fizz at the wesley!

...it was lots of fun - our next cycling plan is to peddle our way to broadway (an easier 9 miles away) for a pub crawl!

On saturday, after saying we’d go there for ages, we went to Café Craycombe which is a licensed restaurant with the slogan ‘thought for food’ - we had a wander around the antique places and then had a cuppa and cake in the sunshine. It’s a lovely place to eat: Craycombe Farm, Evesham Rd, Fladbury, Pershore, Worcestershire WR10 2QS. We went for a walk by the river on the way home, and jemima enjoyed a swim in the sunshine….
